Social welfare in Thailand:
Ban Rom Sai is an orphanage located in Chiang Mai, north-ern Thailand, which provides a home for 30 children, many of whom have contracted H.I.V. The home aims to provide a safe nurturing environment for the children, to give them purpose and help them discover their own skills. Creativity and artistry is an important part of the home environment.
Education & Social welfare in Bali:
Windhorse has developed a close working relationship with our supplier in Bali. In an on going programme, we have been donating funds to helps schools and orphanages in Bali that are in need of equipment and repairs. Help is also provided to pay school fees for children whose parents are unable to pay.
Social welfare in Nepal:
In Nepal one in 13 children die before the age of five, mainly due to hypothermia, infectious disease and poor nutrition. In this society, women and girls do not get enough food or medical care because of their gender. The Green Tara Trust is working to change this In 2010 Windhorse donated £5,000 to help provide care in pregnancy and childbirth for 10,000 people in rural Nepal, working to empower communities to take responsibility for their own care. They are skilled in communicating and promoting health issues and aim to engage the poorest and most marginalised in community programmes.
Education in Guatemala:
Since 2005, in partnership with our supplier, Windhorse has helped fund three schools. This has enabled an increase in the number of pupils that attend these schools, which now totals 400 and is expected to increase. The first two schools were built for communities at La Giralda and El Mirador. More recently Windhorse has helped fund the building of a permanent school in the mountain village of Pacayal, which was previously a tin-roofed structure held up by four tree trunks!
