A 15 minute walk or one tube stop away from The Darlington
Hyde Park is Queensway home to a host of excellent Chinese
restaurants. Among our favourites are:
Four Seasons (84 Queenway) which serves the best roast
duck in London. There is often a wait for tables at
peak dining times but once seated the waiters are friendly
and helpful.
Even if you book a table at The Mandarin Kitchen (14-16
Queensway) you will often have to wait but it will be
worth it for the lobster noodles with ginger and spring
onions. The seafood here is so good that the London's
Cantonese flock here for seafood feasts.
If its Dim Sum you want then there is no better place
than Royal China (13 Queensway) . At Kam Tong (59 Queensway)
you get good food and very friendly waiters who make
the meal a very enjoyable experience.
The Satay House at 13 Sale Place (www.satayhouse.com)
just round the corner is well know for its excellent
Malaysian food and is often crowded with not only the
locals but the Malaysian community and its students. Fish & Chips
London would not be London without Fish and Chips and
across the road from us is Micky's Fish Bar (20 London
Street). Italian Christini's (Sussex Place), San Marco Ristorante E Pizzeria (10 London Street) and ASK Pizza Pasta Restaurant (41 Spring Street) all offer good Italian food in friendly surroundings. Pub Grub Nearby pubs which also serve Pub food and boast convivial surroundings are The Dickens Tavern (London Street), The Swan Tavern (66 Bayswater Road), Victoria Public House (10a Strathearn Place) and The Chapel Public House (48 Chapel Street). Middle Eastern
Nearby Edgware Road is home to a number of Middle Eastern
restaurants. The most famous of these is Maroush (21
Edgware Road) which serves excellent Lebanese food in
opulent surroundings by courteous staff. And on Saturdays
there is even some belly dancing. The Ranoush Juice
Bar (43 Edgware Road) is always a hub of activity with
its fruit juices and takeaway snacks. Thai
Visit the latest Patara restaurant at 7, Maddox Street
(between Oxford Street and Regent Street) famous for
not only its food but a stylish interior and ambience
that has impressed both diners and restaurant critics.
Further afield but only a short taxi ride across Hyde
Park are 2 other branches of Patara - at 9 Beauchamp
Place and 181 Fulham Road convenient for when shopping
at Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Kensington High Street.
All three restaurants ooze understated sophistication
with their white linen tablecloths, orchid arrangements
and ancient Thai artefacts. The menu is constantly tried,
tested and renewed by the Directors who take their reputation
very seriously.
The staff is rightly famous for their friendliness
and nothing is too much trouble for them.
