London Christmas Lights

London

Nothing says Christmas like Christmas lights and London has more than its fair share of lights to see. So where should you start your festive fun?

Oxford Street
During the Christmas season, the shopping mecca that is Oxford Street is lit up with a glorious array of lights. The switch-on event is always a spectacle. Even if you aren’t around for the switch-on event it is worth visiting the street after dark to see the many curtains of light.

To get to Oxford Street from The Darlington Hotel, you can either take the number 98 bus. The other option is to take the Bakerloo line from Paddington to Oxford Circus.

Covent Garden
Covent Garden has a wonderful indoor display of light inside the market hall. The display is always exciting and family-friendly. Over the years, popular exhibits have included life-sized reindeer and mistletoe garlands joining the chandeliers.

Covent Garden is a ten-minute ride on the Bakerloo line. Hop on at Bakerloo and then get off at Piccadilly Circus which is a short walk from Covent Garden.

Regent Street
The display at Regent Street takes traditional themes and makes them truly extravagant. The whole street is often pedestrianised for the switch-on event. Angels are a firm favourite with magnificent 3D structures created from the lights.

You can get to Regent Street from the Darlington Hotel on either the Bakerloo line or Central line.

Kew Gardens
The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew are home to a spectacular Christmas light display. The display snakes along for a mile through the gardens. The beautiful display uses more than a million lights. The trail gives you a chance to see the famous gardens in a whole new light. There is a fee to enjoy the walk. Under 4s go free.

It takes about an hour to get the gardens from The Darlington Hotel. You take the District line from Paddington Station to Richmond. Then you take the number 65 bus to Kew Gardens Stop P.
