The Tower of London has many attractions in one and is arguably the most important set of buildings in Britain. Located next to Tower Bridge and across the River Thames from The Shard, this medieval castle is home to the Crown Jewels and the iconic Beefeaters.
Playing vital roles in English history, the tower has served as an armoury, treasury, prison, and zoo and houses the Royal Mint that produces coins for the United Kingdom. Walking around the site, you can see 41 features such as the White Tower and the Bloody Tower.
During your visit, you can see the famous collection of 23,578 gemstones that make up the Crown Jewels. You can discover the stories behind the Yeoman Warders who were Royal Bodyguards since 1509. You can see the famous and notoriously clever black ravens who occupy the tower at the request of Charles II. The imprisonment tower exhibition is also a must-see and views the very rooms that criminals were held. Inmates included Anne Boleyn, Edward V, Guy Fawkes, and Sir Thomas More.
As well as numerous places to eat in the area around the Tower of London, there are four dining options on-site and the menus and prices can be viewed online. Queuing for the Crown Jewels can take an average of 20 minutes but is worth the wait. For the full experience, allow three to four hours to see everything. The nearest turn station is Tower Hill on the Circle and District underground lines.
The attraction is open from 9 am till 4.30pm on Tuesday to Saturday, and 10 am to 4.30pm Sunday to Monday. Online ticket prices are £29.90 for adults, £24.00 for students or seniors, £14.90 for children aged 5 to 11 and free for under 5’s. Family saver tickets can be purchased online, and audio guides and guidebooks are £5 (prices as of November 2022). You can make an optional donation with your ticket to help with the running of the attraction.
