The city of London looks a little different from the sky, and there are lots of ways you can enjoy the view, including the Emirates Air Line.
The Emirates Air Line is a cable car that carries you over the Thames. You get a fantastic view of the city as your travel between The Royal Docks and Greenwich Peninsula.
The Ride
The journey takes about 10 minutes each way. However, if you ride during rush hour, the carriages go much faster, and the trip only takes 5 minutes. So if you want to enjoy the view, you might want to make a note to avoid the line between 7:30 and 9:30 am.
As you fly over the Thames, you can spot a lot of famous London landmarks. To the east, you'll see the Thames Barrier, and to the west is Canary Wharf. Other sights include the O2 Arena, The Crystal, and the Royal Observatory.
Tickets
You have a few different options when it comes to buying tickets. You can get a single, for a one-way trip or you can have a return ticket so you can go back over at any point on the same day. Alternatively, you can book a Discovery Experience. This ticket gives you a round trip along with an inflight guide to point out all the best sights as you go. Once you return to Greenwich, you will also receive entry into the Emirates Aviation Experience.
The Air Line is separate from the rest of the transport infrastructure of the city, so you do need to buy a ticket. However, if you have an Oyster card, you do get a discount.
Getting There
It's about a 40-minute journey to get to the Emirates Air Line from The Darlington. The easiest route is to get on the central line at Lancaster Gate, then change to the Jubilee line at Bond Street. Your final stop is North Greenwich Station which is about a 5-minute walk from your destination.
